Sunday 15th February

Gazing out of the patio window this afternoon
and licking my lips at the sight of all that lovely bread
on the lawn, I was struck by the thought:
What is it still doing there?
Where are the starving sparrows, starlings & pigeons
who should have cleared the area faster than a swarm of locusts?
The full birdfeeders are mute evidence
of a two-week absence of feathered feasting!
Where have all the birds gone?
